This is the first newsletter of the year for Cats In Need Trust and we hope that the new year began in a positive way for everyone! We have a number of goals this year at Cats In Need Trust and are hoping that you can help us with them.

Aim 1: Upgrade our profile

We're aiming to spread the word as to what we are doing: Rescuing cats and kittens that are unwanted, abandoned, and abused. Also we re-home them after they're brought back to full health. Please help by spreading the word about our cause to friends and colleagues! Follow on us facebook and twitter as well.

Aim 2: More volunteers

Do you know someone who could spare us a morning or two per month to help keep the cattery functioning? If so, we're always looking for new helpers, so please give us a call on 09 276 9960 or 027 426 4374. Or email us with VOLUNTEERING in the subject line.

Aim 3: Increase our funds

To this aim we plan to have garage sales, continue with the BBQs at the Mad Butcher and to encourage sponsorship of our special cats. If you would like to sponsor one of our cats, click here for more details. Also, if you have anything that you may want to donate for future garage sales please email us with GARAGE SALE in the subject line.

Katie and PinguStory of the Month

Pingu and Katie's mother was six months old when she had five kittens and all were born with deformities. Pingu (inset) and Katie (main image) came to us and in the beginning Pingu's back legs stuck out straight behind her and on consultation with the vet her right hind leg was removed. She learnt to walk at 6 months and her tail was broken also, so recently the vet removed her tail and from this point she has never looked back.

Little Katie's back legs were also deformed but not to the same level as her sisters. Katie is able to walk in her own way, but unfortunately nothing can be done to right her legs.

Both these girls can still purr and give love and if you would like to consider sponsoring one of these girls please give us a call to register your interest or email us with the subject line: SPONSORSHIP and tell us which one (or both) you would like to sponsor. It is as little as $5 a week per cat to sponsor and this helps cover their food bill.

Our Successes!
We had 42 cats successfully rehomed in 2010 with ages ranging from only five months to 5½ years. We would love to have the same or better level of success this year and match up our cats to more happy forever homes.

Sultan's been adopted!

Sultan is Adopted!

We predict he will live the "Life of Riley”. Congratulations, Sultan xo

Congratulations!
Our heartfelt congratulations to Kylie who has gained her veterinary nurses certificate, a course of three years. Kylie has been volunteering with us for 5 years. Working at the trust inspired Kylie to enter Veterinary Nursing. We rely heavily on Kylie's judgement in regard to the cats health and welfare. Well done Kylie, we are very privileged to have the volunteer services of a qualified Veterinary Nurse. We also have another volunteer who is a trainee Veterinary Nurse as well!

Beauty CompetitionWATCH THIS SPACE!

We are proposing a Cat beauty contest and there would be a suggested entry fee of $5 per photo posted to us together with the photo. There may be more than one category which will be confirmed closer to the competition time.

If you think you'd be interested in more information/entering your beloved pet or have some additional ideas that may help us, or even if you are a business who may want to donate a product or services for the event, please email either catsnjammas@maxnet.co.nz or owens@nznet.co.nz (with “CONTEST” in subject line). Details will be announced at a later date on the website home page, Cats In Need Trust. Make sure you watch that space!

QUOTE OF THE MONTH
“If you are worthy of it’s affection, a cat will be your friend but never your slave”
We use these words of wisdom when adopting our cats to forever homes.
